Steve Harrelson, 71, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2022.
Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Winscott Road Funeral Home Chapel, 1001 Winscott Road, Benbrook, Texas 76126.
Steve was born May 18, 1950, in Colorado City, Texas to Buck and Marion Harrelson. He was the oldest of four brothers. Steve graduated from Andrews High School in 1968 and received a full scholarship to the University of Houston to play football. He graduated in 1972 with a B.A. Steve taught school in Houston and later taught and coached football and golf in Rising Star, Texas. He retired from Tarrant County in 2012 as a systems analyst.
Steve was an athlete. He ran marathons, triathlons, and an Iron Man. He biked thousands of miles on the Trinity Trails, and he did the Hotter Than Hell 100 bike ride in Wichita Falls four times. He canoed the Pecos River and the Rio Grande several times. As a youth, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kenny, and Richard.
Survivors: His loving wife of 26 years, Shirley; son, Chris and wife, Jessica, and precious granddaughter, Isla Jude of Southern Pines, North Carolina; son, Shawn; stepdaughter, Laura Irrgang and husband, Adam; beloved granddaughters, Violet and Piper of Lone Oak, Texas; brother, Loyd and wife, Cathy; sisters-in-law, Sandy and Lee Ann; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be planned soon.
