Ruth Savage

June 10, 1926 — July 9, 2021

Ruth Alene Taylor Henson Savage, 95, passed away July 9, 2021, in Benbrook, Texas.  She was known by many as either Alene, Tooter, Tootie or Memaw.

Graveside service:  11:00 a.m., July 13th in Chico Cemetery, Chico Texas.

Alene was born in Bowie, Montague County, Texas on June 10, 1926, to Reese Scott Taylor and Dona Hortense Rather Taylor. She was the youngest of seven brothers and one sister, so she grew up quite a tomboy.

Alene married her high school sweetheart, Doyle Harley Henson, on June 21, 1947, after he returned from the Navy, and they moved to Fort Worth.  They had three sons, Billy Douglas “Doug”, Anthony Doyle “Tony”, and Timothy Mark “Tim”.  In the 70’s, she and Doyle bought a mobile home and moved it to a lot that they owned on Lake Granbury.  Oh, how they loved to entertain on the lake!  Doyle passed away suddenly on September 15, 1975.

Alene worked at All Saints School of Nursing for many years. Always the adventurer, she got her Pilot’s License when she was in her 50’s.  She loved animals, reading, gardening, traveling, cooking, and entertaining friends and family.  Once she met someone, they were family.  She also loved her church family at Western Hills Church of Christ and so loved the ladies’ Bunco parties!  Well, she loved any party because she loved people and that is why she loved nothing more than a house full of people, even if the house was overflowing.

Alene married Roy Wayne Savage on December 5, 1987.  She had known him in high school. With this marriage, she gained another son, Kelly Wayne Savage and his wife, Peggy.  Roy and Alene traveled in their RV spending several summers in Chama, NM and even going to Alaska.  Roy was a well-respected Horse Judge and with his job they were fortunate enough to go to England and Germany and many other places.

Alene lived a full and exciting life with no regrets. She was an amazing lady.  The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice and special caregivers, Hope Yanez and Candace Rife.

She was preceded in death by her parents; all her siblings, George Henry, Robert Edward, Jeff Pruitt, Doyle Dean, Tinsley Thomas, Willie Bridwell, Myrtle Betty, and Clinton Seward; her son, Doug in 1967, husbands, Doyle in 1975 and Roy in 2013; nephew, Mike Hill and special friend, Mike Simmons both in 2020.

She is survived by sons, Tim, Tony and his wife, Cindy; stepson, Kelly Savage and his wife, Peggy; stepdaughter, Tori Savage; grandchildren, Ryan Henson and his wife, Kristen, Harley Henson, Kayla Savage, Kyle Savage and wife, Kristen; nieces, Betty Perrin, Tammy Taylor, Sheila Hill, Pat Wheeler, and Jane Haley; nephews, Buster Taylor, Tom Taylor, and Jerry Taylor; and seven great-grandchildren.
