Robert Wilson McPherson, 96, passed to his Heavenly home with the Lord on Saturday, May 22, 2021.

Funeral Service:  Noon, Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Winscott Road Funeral Home, 1001 Winscott Road, Benbrook, Texas 76126.  Burial:  Cleburne Memorial Park Cemetery in Cleburne, Texas.  Visitation:  5-7:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials:  In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to his current church, Benbrook United Methodist Church, 1122 Bryant Street, Benbrook, Texas 76126, or Cook Children’s Hospital in FW www.cookchildrens.org.

Wilson was born October 9, 1924 in Anson, Texas to William Bass McPherson and Annie Eliza Wilson McPherson.  He graduated from Anson High School, attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and was in their University Cowboy Band.  He left classes to enlist in the Army Air Force in 1942. He served in WWII in the 343rd Bomb Squadron, 98th Bomb Group “The Pyramidiers”.  He flew on 25 combat missions with the B-24 Liberator Bomber group.

Wilson returned to Anson in 1945 and married Ava in 1946 at the First Baptist Church. They moved to Fort Worth and he worked at General Dynamics (Lockheed) for 40 years before retiring.  He worked in Special Projects Group on many aircraft.  He was a long time member of Bethel Methodist Church and was active in the Methodist Men group.

He enjoyed square dancing, camping vacations, golfing, family gatherings, game nights with friends, and fun times with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Bill McPherson, his sister, Anita Duncan, and sons-in-law, John Schroeter and John Hester.

He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Ava McPherson; daughters, Melinda Hester and Patsy McPherson; nephew, Jim Duncan (Connie); five grandchildren, Joel, Jason, Katy, Jordan (Megan), and Jackson; six great-grandchildren, Delaney, Addyson, Fritz, Vada, Sutton and Cohen; and many nieces and nephews.

He was a loving husband, dad, papaw, uncle, and friend — and will be dearly missed by all.
