Becky Harris of Benbrook, Texas passed away early Thursday, October 27, 2022, from complications of lupus.
Rebecca Jo Penn was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to the late Mary Milligan Penn (later Wilson) and William Jennings Penn. She was the youngest of three daughters. Becky graduated from Newark High School in Arkansas. She met her husband, Joe, at Arkansas State, and together they lived in several states across the Southern U.S. Their oldest daughter, Mary Joni, was born in Norman, Oklahoma, and their youngest, Marilyn Elizabeth, was born in Ajo, Arizona. Becky and Joe have called Benbrook home since 2000.
Becky was spirited and creative all her life. She enjoyed traveling, going to concerts, and many arts and crafts projects, including painting, cake decorating, and making clothes for her family (from doll clothes to cosplay). She had a long career as an assistant administrator of nursing homes; earlier in life, she had worked as a cosmetologist and as a librarian. She loved to visit Scarborough Faire and was able to work there for a season while in retirement.
The love and support between Becky and her family filled her later years. She shared in the interests of her daughters and granddaughters, hosted parties for birthdays and holidays, and prided herself in locating rare and special items when needed. She devoted a great deal of time and energy to the care of others, including supporting her mother through dementia and helping her granddaughter learn to manage her diabetes. However serious life got, Becky met her challenges with enthusiasm, curiosity, and an occasionally wicked sense of humor.
Becky is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Thomas Joe Harris; her children: Mary Joni Harris, along with her spouse, G.J. Hodson, and daughter, Ava Shaffer, and Marilyn Elizabeth Patton, with her daughters, Maya Cortez and Audrey Patton; two sisters, Mary Lou Seidlitz and Rita Roller; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 from 1-2:00 p.m. at Winscott Road Funeral Home in Benbrook, Texas.
