Peter "Pete" Erich Lauterbach, 75, left this earth on June 5, 2019, surrounded in love by his three daughters and his oldest grandchild as he departed this earth peacefully.
Funeral service: 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Winscott Road Funeral Home, 1001 Winscott Road, Benbrook 76126. Open visitation: 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. Burial: Crowley Cemetery, Crowley, Texas.
Pete was born in Guben, Germany on June 7, 1943 to Erich Alfred Lauterbach and Lieselotte Maria Tilgner. Pete and his mother came to America by boat in the summer of 1955. According to the ship manifest, Pete and his mother boarded the ship with only two suitcases to travel to America. Pete traveled to America not even knowing the English language. He learned the language quickly and studied to become a US Citizen, and he became a US citizen on September 4, 1958. As a young adult, Pete found himself in Mineral Wells, Texas where he met and married Linda Gayle Blount. Pete and Linda married in June of 1962, and shortly thereafter he joined the US Army. Pete served for three years and then joined the reserves until 1967. Upon completion of his military duty, Pete, Linda, and daughter, Sheila moved to Mineral Wells until Pete enrolled in a trade school in New York. Pete learned the trade of working various print machines while enrolled in school. Once he aced the program, Pete relocated his family back to Texas where he worked for Majestic Printing for a short time. Pete was then hired on at General Services Administration, a government print shop, and then retired at the age of 55.
Pete enjoyed swimming, bowling, tennis, darts, playing pool, and most of all gambling. He was also known to enjoy his Old Taylor whiskey, a lot. Pete was also a diehard Cowboy fan, and was known to yell at the TV during football season.
Pete is preceded in death by his father, Erich Alfred Lauterbach and mother, Lieselotte Maria Starkey.
Survivors: Pete is survived by the mother of his children, Linda Gayle Lauterbach; children, Sheila Lauterbach Rushing and Darryl Trout, Lesa Lauterbach Hurst and Billy, and Erika Lauterbach Brown and Paul; grandchildren, Shae Leigh Lee, Brandi Doublin, Taylor Hurst, Madison Hurst, Brooklyn Rushing, Jaiden Lauterbach-Pluckwell, Haley Hurst, Emily Hurst, Makiah Brown, and Dallas Brown; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Kay Dahl and Brent; niece, Kirsten Hombach; and a loving extended family.
