Omer Russell McVean III, our "Russell", passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023, at his home in Benbrook, Texas.

Inurnment with military honors: 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211. Please arrive at cemetery by 11:15 a.m.  Following the cemetery service there will be a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, 800 West 5th St, Fort Worth, TX 76102.

Russell was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on October 1, 1947, to Mary Ann and Omer Russell McVean, Jr.

After traveling Europe while in the Army and working on the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline in Alaska, Russell settled back in Fort Worth. That is where he met and married his wife, Peggy, of 37 years, and raised their daughter, Sarah.

Russell was known throughout the Fort Worth community from his days running the White Elephant Saloon and as the owner of an event security business. In the latter role, he proudly worked events like the Main Street Arts Festival, The Parade of Lights, and many other events hosted in the Fort Worth Stockyards.

He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran and always expressed that pride with Army-themed hats, clothing, and stickers on his truck.

Russell was a devoted father, husband and Pop. He taught his daughter a love for being outdoors in nature and enjoyed fossil hunting with his wife. His newest love was his grandson, Mac. Russell loved to read with Mac on his lap and to look through family photos together.

As a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, grandson, colleague, and friend, he was a strong, loving and organized man. Our Russell (also known as Russ, Daddy, and Pop) will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Omer Russell McVean, Jr., and his mother, Mary Ann McVean.

Survivors: Loving wife, Peggy McVean; daughter, Sarah McVean Brown and husband, T.W.; grandson, Mac Brown; brother, Thaine McVean; sisters, Kim Grimm and husband, Randy, and Pam McVean; nieces, Erica Briggs, Renae Ford, and Jessica McVean; and many more family members and friends.
