Nancy Jo Pauley (aka: Mom and Neenee), of Granbury, Texas, passed away on November 26, 2020, at the age of 83. She was born Nancy Jo Pirtle on November 13, 1937, in Roswell, NM. As an only child, Nancy spent most of her childhood growing up on farms and in farming communities near Roswell. She also spent a couple of years in Ruidoso, NM, where her parents owned and operated the local bowling alley. Nancy’s family later settled in Dexter, NM, where she attended high school and where she made a number of life-long friends and developed many fond memories.
Upon graduation from Dexter High School, Nancy attended Colorado Women’s College for one year and then decided to transfer to Texas Western (now UT El Paso). It was at Texas Western where she met the love of her life and husband of 62 years, Eldon Earl “Pete” Pauley. After she and Pete graduated from Texas Western, they spent the following years mostly in Levelland, TX, and Hobbs, NM, where they worked and raised their three kids. During this time, Nancy also attended Texas Tech University to earn her teaching certificate. Afterwards she worked, initially as an elementary school teacher, and later as a home-bound teacher, which she found very satisfying.
After retiring, Nancy and Pete moved to Pecan Plantation near Granbury, Texas, where she spent the majority of her time reading, traveling, enjoying her grandkids, and playing bridge and golf.
Nancy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Pete Pauley; her son, Eldon Earl “Petey” Pauley, Jr.; and her parents, Tommie and Marion “Buck” Pirtle.
Nancy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jamey and Lara Lynn Pauley; her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Shannon Sorrells; her grandchildren, Trey Sorrells (and Trey’s wife, Maria), Jared Pauley, Abigail Pauley, and Hayden Sorrells; her great grandchildren, Nico and Eliana Sorrells; her 102 year-old aunt, Jodie Keyes; as well as, five first cousins.
Nancy’s family would like to thank the staff at Quail Park of Granbury’s Memory Care Cottage and Kindred Hospice for the love and care they gave her these last few months. The family would also like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and heartwarming messages over the last several days and request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to her favorite charity, Friends for Animals in Granbury, TX (https://granburyadoptapet.org/).
Memorial services for Nancy will be private, but the family invites you to sign her virtual guest book at Winscott Funeral Home (https://www.winscottfuneral.com/).
