Marjorie Jean (Gibbo) Kern, 77, of Fort Worth Texas, a beloved mother and Orthodox parishioner, passed away on September 9, 2023. Happily, she was surrounded by immediate family at the time of her death.
Marjorie was born on October 5, 1945 in Attalla, Alabama to Margaret Bertha Peter and Gerald James Gibbo. She spent her early years in Malone, New York, where her father served in the US Military. Later, they moved to Virginia. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History from George Mason University in 1969 and was working at National Geographic in Washington DC when she met her beloved husband, John Kern.
Marjorie and John Kern celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2019, before John’s passing in 2020. They were married on November 21, 1969 in Arlington, Virginia in an Episcopalian ceremony. She was a devoted wife.
In 1991, Marjorie became a registered nurse in the State of Delaware after two years of hard work to earn the highest ranking in her class. She was very proud of this accomplishment and worked as a psychiatric nurse before moving to Fort Worth, Texas in 1992.
Marjorie was received into the Holy Eastern Orthodox Church through the Sacrament of Holy Chrismation at St. Peter Church on June 28, 1998, by Father Anthony Miller. She was a devoted parishioner, helping the church with whatever needed to be done such as cleaning, gardening, polishing, and ironing. This service brought her much joy and she made many close friends through her parish.
Marjorie loved books, especially mysteries and crime thrillers. She also loved food. Her work as a homemaker involved cooking for her growing family and encouraging and supporting her children in their vast array of interests. She made a point to keep them busy, well educated, and well mannered. She was very proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
Her family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at Bethesda Gardens, AlevCare Hospice and Legacy Heathcare.
Marjorie is survived by her loving children, Christopher and his wife, Rebekah; Scott; and Kimberly; and grandchildren, Caroline and Jonathan.
