Margarete Lewis

Margarete "Marge" Riecken Lewis, 95, passed away with her children and their spouses present on Veterans Day November 11, 2022.

Born in Germany, she immigrated to the U.S. in March of 1930. Marge graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane, Washington. She received a BS in Nursing Administration from East Texas State University.

Marge received her commission in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps in 1950. She was stationed in Hawaii and spent six years in the Navy as a flight nurse with the 1453rd Medical Air Evacuation Squadron. Marge retired from the Texas Department of Health where she was recognized for outstanding service and dedication as a Health Facility Surveyor.

Marge loved golfing, reading, sewing, walking, helping others and spending time with her family. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Fort Worth for over 50 years, a member of the Fort Worth Ladies Golf Association, and Tarrant County Walkers. Marge was a volunteer for over 25 years at both Women's Haven and West Aid.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Hilda Aldrich; brothers, Herman Riecken, and Paul Riecken; her father, Claus Riecken; and her mother, Christine Jessen.

She is survived by her son, Roger Lewis and wife, Kimberly; daughter, Susan Christine McManus and husband, Peter; grandson, Curtis Lewis and wife, Elizabeth; brother, Hugo Riecken and wife, Leslie Cone; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life: 9:30 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2022, at Lakeside Baptist Church, Granbury, Texas.  Interment with military honors: 1:30 p.m., Friday, December 9th at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
