Lowell Roberts, Jr. went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at home in Benbrook, Texas surrounded by his family.
Lowell was born February 7, 1952 in Fort Worth, Texas to Lowell “Ben” and Juanita Manning Roberts. He graduated from Green B. Trimble Technical High School in 1970 and married his high school sweetheart, Karen Kohn two weeks later on June 19, 1970 at College Avenue Baptist Church.
His patient, compassionate nature led him into the field of special education and he received degrees from Texas Wesleyan University in 1975 and a Master’s in Administration from UNT in 1978. His professional career spanned almost forty years with the state of Texas in various capacities, first as a teacher of the profound and severely handicapped, later advancing to leadership roles as Director of Education and Director of Progressive Industries with the Fort Worth and Denton State Schools. Because of his love, integrity, and unfailing advocacy for the students and clients that he served, he received many state commendations, and regional awards during his career.
Lowell trusted in Christ as his Savior at a young age. He was a true example of generosity, humility and love for others. He began serving the Lord as a young man teaching the young married adults class, RA leader, deacon, as well as the many years he spent on Thursday nights in the prayer room at church. However his very favorite role was teaching the senior adult men’s Sunday School class for many years at Birchman Baptist Church. His tender heart was one who gave to anyone in need, offered his home for anyone to stay and would go whenever he was needed.
He loved music of all kinds, trips, short or long, and spending quality time with all of his extended family. His godly example of patience, provision and sacrifice and love for his wife, Karen, and his sons, Matthew and Jordan was without equal.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pregnancy Help Center, 7700 Camp Bowie West, Ste 120, Fort Worth, Texas 76116 or to the Corners of the Field, Birchman Baptist Church, 9100 N. Normandale, Fort Worth, Texas 76116.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Matthew (Kelly) of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jordan (Karen) of Austin, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kim and Karen Kohn of Springbranch, Texas, Terry and Kitty Covington of Crowley, Texas; special cousin, Kenneth (JoAnn) Manning of Chico, Texas; as well as several uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and childhood friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, grandparents and brother-in-law, Kevin Kohn.
