Hilda "Betsy" Hagemier

July 13, 1949 — January 21, 2021

Benbrook

Hilda Marie “Betsy” Hagemier, 71, of Benbrook, passed away peacefully in her sleep with her devoted husband by her side, on January 21, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Services:  Due to the pandemic, a private family memorial will be held a later date.

Memorials:  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in her name.

Betsy was born in Munich Germany in 1949, and shortly relocated with her mother to her father’s home in Texas.  She grew up in Fort Worth and had a happy childhood with most of it spent with her oldest brother, Kirk.  In 1971, she met the love of her life, James and they have been inseparable ever since.  They raised two children together and were very close with all her siblings.

Betsy had a talent for sewing and loved to sew outfits for the children.  Many beautiful pillows and blankets still adorn our homes.  We cherish anything we have with the “made by mom” tag attached.  Her daughter is especially proud of the veil she made for her wedding.  Betsy had the opportunity to share her talent and be close to the hobby she loved during her many years working for Hancock Fabrics.  Betsy was also a wonderful cook, who left us with recipes for her specialties that none of us can quite duplicate.  She had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and flower arranging.  Of her many talents, caring for her family was what she did best of all.  This including offering support to her mom and youngest siblings Shirley, Chris and Lisa, when they lost their father at much too young an age.  She enjoyed a close relationship with all her siblings throughout her life.  She was always willing to offer counsel and prayer for family and anyone who needed it.

Throughout their marriage, Betsy and James enjoyed road trips to places near and far and could often be found antiquing or perusing a farmers’ market.  In their later years, they loved spending time on their land in Montague County, where James’ brother George and his wife, Lorene were neighbors.  Their hope was to retire there one day, but sadly due to her illness, they were unable to.  When she became ill with the cruelest disease, her husband remained steadfastly by her side as her fulltime caregiver for over 10 years.  He can be proud of how he cared for her until the very end.

We all have faith that she is resting in the Lord now and we will one day be reunited. Until then, rest in peace sweet mama. We love you.

Betsy was preceded in death by her father, Ardys Haile and her mother, Hilda Haile.
