Gary R. Hankins, of Benbrook, passed away January 5, 2023, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Gary was born in Fort Worth and was proud to call Texas his home. Most of his childhood, he traveled the world with his family via the U.S. Air Force. His family returned to the United States and settled in Fort Worth in 1963 where he later graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1965. He then went on to attend Weatherford College.
Over the years, Gary worked for Safeway grocery stores. He was also a sales manager for Tandy National Parts and Allied Electronics. He was owner of Citywide Addressing Service and later Decorative Specialties Art Designs.
His love of sports and his daughter, Danielle, led him to start coaching girls’ volleyball at the Benbrook YMCA around 2008. He continued coaching with Game On Fort Worth, where he worked until October of 2022.
Gary was preceded in death by his son, Shane Patrick Hankins; and his parents, Mary Eloise and Capt. Richard E. Hankins, USAF Retired.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Joanne Street Hankins; son, David Sheets and wife, Jennifer Keller Sheets; grandsons, Brandon, and Beckham Sheets; his daughter, Danielle Hankins; sister, Barbara Hankins; and his best buddy, “Paco” the chihuahua.
