Ervin Alexander "Erv" Cogdell, 79, passed away July 27, 2015.
Memorial service: 10 a.m., Friday at Winscott Road Funeral Home, 1001 Winscott Road. Interment: 1:15 p.m., Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Lane B, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy., Dallas, Texas.
Ervin A. Cogdell was born Sept. 27, 1935 in North Carolina to Gurley and Betty Cogdell. He attended the ROTC of Greensboro, N.C. He retired as a Major in the U.S. Air Force. Erv served as a B52 pilot, flying missions in Vietnam. He ranked top 10% in his pilot training class. Erv also retired as a pilot instructor for American Airlines. He was a member of Daedalins, the Military Officer Association of America (M.O.A.A.), and member the "River Rats", the Red River Valley fighter pilot's association.
Erv joined the Aerospace Optimist Club of Fort Worth, Texas in 1978. His position was the official club photographer of his local club, official photographer of North Texas District of Optimist International. He achieved his level 10 Personal Growth Involvement (P.G.I.). He was a fund raising chairman and club builder winning the Builders of Excellence Award in 2012.
Erv loved to travel by car, train, or cruise ship. His favorite place to visit was with his sister in Columbus, Ohio, and Bangkok Thailand. His favorite vacation spot was Topsail, N.C. He loved attending theater with dear friends and lastly he was a number one dedicated Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan.
Survivors: Sister, Sudie Davis; nieces and nephews, Carol Rice, (Clarence), Ray Davis (Dian), Tony Davis; and many other loving family members.
