Elsie McNeil Duncan Lance, a loving sister, aunt, step-mother, step-grandmother, and friend, 75, of Benbrook, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 2, 2015.
Celebration of Life: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 at Westside Presbyterian Church, 8700 Chapin Road, Fort Worth. Friends and neighbors are cordially invited.
Elsie was born in Alton, Ill. on June 11, 1940, to James and Ann Duncan, with a very proud older sister, Sally, to watch over her. After graduating from Alton Senior High School in 1956, the Duncan family moved to Oshkosh, Wisc., which had been a favorite vacation spot. Elsie attended Ripon College in Ripon, Wisc. before moving to Arkansas and finally to Texas.
In 1972, Elsie began her career with Frank Kent Cadillac. After a combined 28 years of service, she retired from Frank Kent on August 2, 2000. She remained very close with her Frank Kent friends and visited with them frequently throughout the years.
Elsie married the love of her life and Frank Kent co-worker, Marvin Lance on July 2, 1981, and spent many happy years together until his death in 1989.
Even though Elsie contracted polio at the age of 12, that horrible disease hardly ever slowed her down or darkened her outlook on life. Elsie enjoyed her life and was passionate to assist others any way possible. In spite of her physical condition which kept her in constant pain, Elsie was still involved in making sandwiches for the local Presbyterian Night Shelter as well as tutoring displaced children relocated to Fort Worth after Hurricane Katrina. Elsie also looked forward to her Tuesday afternoons of playing Bridge and will be sorely missed by her Bridge partners.
Westside Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth was where Elsie attended regularly and she attended First Presbyterian Church, Alton, while growing up. Elsie loved her two church families and they believe Elsie is now healthy and whole again with our Lord.
Elsie was the type of person who made life-long friends and has numerous friends across the United States that are deeply saddened by her passing, but still have wonderful memories and stories that they can cherish. Elsie lived by the premise that life is a present and you needed to be a present.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her sister Sally. Elsie leaves her beloved niece and nephew; Kathy and Rob Janus and their child, and David and Bobbie Dakony and their children. Others left to cherish her memory are her cousin and his wife, Bill and Peggy Duncan; cousin and his wife, John and Carol Duncan; step-daughter and her husband, Debbie and Bob Minor; two step-grandsons; and numerous loving friends.
