Eldon Earl Pauley (aka Pete, Dad, and Pawpaw) passed away on June 6, 2020, at the age of 85.
Memorial services for Pete will be private, but the family invites you to sign his virtual guest book at Winscott Road Funeral Home (https://www.winscottfuneral.com/).
Memorials: Pete’s family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and heartwarming messages over the last several days and request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Friends for Animals in Granbury, Texas (https://granburyadoptapet.org/).
Pete was born on July 11, 1934, in Iraan, Texas, a small oil-camp town south of Midland. Throughout his life he loved telling funny stories, especially about growing up in Iraan with his sister, Joan. After graduating from Iraan High School, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was in boot camp on the day the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed, so he ended up spending his army career stateside.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Pete attended college at Texas Western, now UT El Paso, where he met the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Nancy Jo Pirtle. After graduating from Texas Western, he tried a few different career endeavors, one of which included starting his own dental lab in Hobbs, New Mexico. After deciding that he had, in his own words, “had enough of that,” he went to work for Amoco Petroleum in Levelland, Texas. He worked for Amoco for almost 30 years, living in Levelland, Hobbs, and Odessa.
After retiring from Amoco, Pete and Nancy moved to Pecan Plantation near Granbury, Texas, where he spent the majority of his time playing golf, spoiling his grandkids, and in his own words again, “just piddling around.”
Pete was preceded in death by his son, Eldon Earl Pauley, Jr.; his parents, James Earl and Mildred Pauley; and his brother-in-law, Lloyd Hale.
Survivors: Pete is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Jo Pauley; his sister, Joan Hale; his son and daughter-in-law, Jamey and Lara Lynn Pauley; his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Shannon Sorrells; his grandchildren, Trey Sorrells and wife, Maria, Jared Pauley, Abigail Pauley, and Hayden Sorrells; his great grandchildren, Nico and Eliana Sorrells; his nephew and nieces, Rick Hale, Machele Lee, and Cindy Rayfield-Aguilar; and all his cousins.
