Denton Merrill Garner, age 90, of Ft. Worth, Texas passed away peacefully December 17, 2024. Denton was born June 17, 1934, son of Dorris and Olive Garner in Ellenboro, West Virginia. They moved to Pennsboro, West Virginia where he played football for Pennsboro High School. While in high school, he met the love of his life, Sharon Allmaker and they were married June 17, 1955 and had a loving marriage for over 69 years. After graduating as Valedictorian of his high school class, he attended West Virginia University where he received his B.S. Degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
After college, Denton began serving his country as an U.S. Air Force Officer which took him all over the United States, Japan and Vietnam. While in the Air Force, he received numerous medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross. Denton retired from his service in the Air Force after 24 years as a Lt. Col. while he was stationed in the panhandle of Florida. He enjoyed and was proud of his time in the Air Force.
Denton then relocated to a 4-acre property outside Ft. Worth and began a second career with General Dynamics. After nine years he fully retired from working life. He enjoyed woodworking and spend many years building craft items for his wife to paint and sold them at craft shows. He also enjoyed coin collecting and taking meticulous care of his 4 acres.
Denton is survived by his loving wife Sharon and three children, Mark and his wife Kati, of Alvin, TX, Rita and her husband Ron, of Sanger, TX, and Tina and her husband Carl of Temple, TX; grandchildren, Tina Marie and Nathan; step grandchildren, Aubrey, Virginia, and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Logan and Remy; and step-grandchildren Helen, Lucy and Beatrice.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services for Denton will be held at Aledo United Methodist Church, 100 Pecan Drive, Aledo, TX on January 6, 2025 at 10:30 AM with a fellowship after the service. Viewing will be available 30 minutes prior to the service. Following the fellowship, the Military Committal Service will be held at Dallas - Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX at 2:15 PM.
