Betty was born July 3, 1938, in Hunt, Arkansas the only child of John and Irene Willy, a pioneer ranching family. During her childhood, she was always active on the farm and was, in the words of her father, “quite the handful”. She graduated high school in 1956 from Hartman High School where she was very active in all sporting activities.
While attending the University of Ozarks, she met, and married, her husband, Dallas. After Dallas’ graduation in 1959, they moved to Wichita Falls, TX and had both Kelley and John before moving to Tulsa, OK.
While in Tulsa, Betty returned to school and earned her degree in Physical Education from the University of Tulsa.
In 1969, the family moved to Fort Worth, TX, where she taught elementary school at FWISD for several years. During this time, she was also very active in coaching a female fast pitch softball team. While she coached during the regular season, during the summer, she coached a select team that participated in various tournaments, which she would normally win. She really enjoyed both her school and coaching activities.
In 1978, her father passed away. Betty and Dallas then moved back to Arkansas to take over the ranch operations for the next 25 years. While there, she was elected to the Quorum Court from District Four in Johnson County Ark. while also serving on the Board of Trustees for the Johnson Co. Hospital.
In 2005 they retired and moved back to Fort Worth, TX to be near family. Both Betty and Dallas enjoyed being able to be “Nana and Papa” to the grandkids.
In 2015, her husband of 57 years, Dallas Maples, passed away.
Betty is survived by her son, John Maples, and daughter-in-law Luciana Maples, and their children, Andrew Ryan Maples & Avery Erika Maples and step grandchild Michael A. Rosas. She is also survived by her daughter Kellye Creech, and son-in-law Stanley Creech, and their daughter Katie LeAnn Green.
