Alice Thomas Turner, 98, passed away comfortably into the arms of our Heavenly Father on Saturday morning, September 24, 2022.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2022, at Southside Church of Christ, 2101 Hemphill Street, Fort Worth, Texas 76110. Visitation 2-4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 2nd at Winscott Road Funeral Home, 1001 Winscott Road, Benbrook, Texas 76126. Her graveside committal with be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 7th at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart to Heart Hospice Center 7240 Chase Oaks Blvd., Plano, Texas 75025 or Southside Church of Christ Children's Ministry.
Alice was the last surviving sibling of nine children, born April 14, 1924 in Georgetown, Texas to Jay Thomas and Laura Harrell Thomas. She was a devoted wife to Lee Turner for 66 years until his death in 2011. Alice met Lee while he was selected to participate in the Navy V12 program while enrolled in Southwestern University in Georgetown. Together they were members of the Churches of Christ in the Fort Worth area for over 65 years. Alice was a TCU business office receptionist in the mid-70’s and followed up as the Alta Mesa Church of Christ secretary from 1978-1986. She was an excellent homemaker in cooking and a blue-ribbon recipient from the Texas State Fair. She proved her seamstress skills by making numerous clothes including wedding dresses. Alice was a devoted mother to her daughters as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An avid bridge player at the Fort Worth Women’s Club and her home at The Vantage at Cityview, she was playing bridge up to two weeks ago as well as leading a Bible discussion.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; and son-in-law, John Haagensen.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen Haagensen of Fort Worth, Jan Moore and husband, Ron of Fredricksburg, and Terri Miller and husband, Mike of Aledo; adored by grandchildren, Kirsten Haagensen Hodge and husband, Trey, David Haagensen, Kasey Barksdale Owens, Chadd Barksdale and Alia Noori Barksdale, Craig & Ellen Miller, Coby & Amy Miller, Erin Miller and Robert Lairy, and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff on the 4th floor of Texas Health Harris-Southwest Hospital, as well as the Heart to Heart Hospice Center on River Park Circle in Fort Worth for their loving care of Alice. And finally, we thank the staff and friends at The Vantage at Cityview in Fort Worth.
